Both pieces stand on their own bases, so set them upright on a level shelf or altar — traditionally the Trishool to the right of your deity image and the Vel to the left — and always lift them by the base rather than the shaft, which is the slimmest part of the carving. Dust the grooves with a dry brush or cloth; untreated ebony should not be washed or oiled.
