Fill the reservoir with ghee or til oil and use a rolled cotton wick; a single small pour burns for roughly fifteen to twenty minutes, which covers a full aarti without leaving a flame unattended. Let the brass cool completely before cleaning, then lift the soot with tamarind pulp or a lemon-and-salt rub and dry the reservoir thoroughly, since residue left in it makes the next wick sputter.
